Will the real Jesus Christ please stand up? Please stand up? Please stand up?

Last week we talked about annihilationism, we believe it’s important enough of a topic that it held some priority.

Over the next few episodes we’ll identify a few characteristics of Jesus that are non-negotiable doctrines and where in the Bible it defines them. We will also list the cult groups that malign each aspect.

Jesus is the Son of God.

Jesus Died a physical and literal death.

Jesus rose from the dead on the third day in a literal and physical resurrection.

Jesus will return in a literal and physical manner at a time that is unknown to us.

This week we will be talking about how Jesus is the Son of God in the sense that He’s co-existent, co-equal in authority, co-eternal and just as divine as God the Father. Now, the Trinity is a tough enough concept to make even the most battle-hardened theologian’s head spin uncontrollably, so debate it people if you dare… What we are going to give you are some simple tools to utilize in the event you encounter someone who denies the deity of Christ.

I had a coworker very recently ask me why I consider Southern Baptists to be Christian, but not Jehovah’s Witnesses. I told him it all comes down to who we’re worshipping, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Muslims, etc… all worship a different god.

The debate on this topic is nothing new, even when Jesus was on the earth people had a fair few things to say about who He is.

Matthew 16:13-20 “When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not [a]prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth [b]will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.”

Clearly nothing has changed, what are some of the things people say about who Christ is?

  • Just a man, perhaps a good moral teacher

  • Prophet or messenger

  • Angel

  • A dead guy from Korea

  • Never existed in the first place
