Atheism: Erasing God from Space.

"The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one." Psalm 14:1-3

This post is the flip side continuation of my article about Christians in the Apollo program, "To God be the glory, even other worlds!" Last week was about how Christians can and should only be limited in their worship of the Lord by what they're capable of doing. I mean, how awesome is it to know there are Christians in the 20th century who love God so much that's the first thing that comes to mind for them in a once-in-a-lifetime event to be on the Moon? This week I'm talking about how at the same time there are wicked human beings who are only limited in their cursing God by what they're capable of doing.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear to begin: atheists are human beings, therefore have feelings and should be treated as such. As human beings, we are to show them love in the sense that they are not beyond salvation as long as they live. It doesn't mean I'm going to sugarcoat any of the truth in this. We can have friends who are atheists. At the same time, let's not overlook there is no real limit to their wickedness. Now that we have that out of the way, let's move to the main point.

Looking at the Scripture passage at the top, it's easy to get hung up on the "fool" part. However, let's focus on the very next part that says, "There is no God." It's really not just a simple refusal to subscribe to a belief in God, rather it's an active desire to erase God from existence, even from space. How could someone say with such absolute authority, "There is no God," unless he/she has an agenda to make that a reality. Why else do atheists mock religion? If their worldview is nothing more than a simple philosophy and religion is nothing more than another simple philosophy, why bother the religious groups at all? Make no mistake: atheists will not stop their attack on all religion until it's completely erased from human existence. Not just removed from federal, state and local legislation, public institutions, but also private institutions, history and even private thought. If atheists really just wanted to be left alone, they would all be doing everything in their power to denounce affiliation with these militant forces and leave all religion alone. But we know that's never gonna happen! Let me give you an example:

Madalyn Murray O'Hair was the founder of the group American Atheists in the early 1960's. She was a very bitter and unpleasant person hell bent on the destruction of religion in every way possible. She was ultimately responsible for removing Bible reading from public schools in 1963 thanks to a lawsuit filed against the Baltimore City Public School System. Her son was getting bullied for his refusal to participate, but instead of him being exempt she wanted the entire thing ruined for everyone. Gee thanks! She just couldn't leave it alone, she had to take it away from the majority. Now there is an astronomical amount of ignorance on the basics of the Christian faith, which results in a poor image of the church as a whole. Seriously, people understood Christianity because it was taught for what it is back then, now that people are terrified to talk about it nobody understands it anymore. What good did that do? In the 1960's there was no such thing as an active shooter drill, nor was there nearly as much teen suicide or self injurious behaviors, eating disorders, drug abuse or teen pregnancy. Yeah, great job there American Atheists, you have screwed up our society more than your warped view of religion could ever do!

For O'Hair, she wasn't satisfied with taking the Bible out of schools though. The 1960's opened up the first new frontier since the discovery of the Americas, we discovered how to explore space. For Frank Borman, Bill Anders, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin, this was an opportunity to bring glory to the Lord. For O'Hair, this was an opportunity to erase God from space. On Christmas Eve of 1968, the Apollo 8 crew took turns reading from Genesis chapter 1 as they viewed the Earth in its entirety for the first time in human history. Never has man been capable of viewing God's creation all at once like this, and God was worshiped. NASA got a lawsuit from American Atheists. *whomp whomp

The case was rejected by the US Supreme Court for lack of jurisdiction. Even though it didn't go anywhere, there was enough fear from NASA that for Apollo 11 Buzz Aldrin wasn't allowed to quote the Bible in the broadcasts. He was, however, allowed to perform the first communion service on the moon, it just had to be hush hush. I've studied the history of the early space program since I was in kindergarten, but it was only a couple of months ago when I discovered the communion service. Sooo once again, thanks a lot American Atheists for warping history and forcing Christians in public to act in fear.

What happened to Madalyn Murray O'Hair? She died a mysterious death and her son William Murray III is a Baptist Pastor. She completely disowned him when he became a born again Christian. This is what she said, "One could call this a postnatal abortion on the part of a mother, I guess; I repudiate him entirely and completely for now and all times ... he is beyond human forgiveness." It just goes to show that you can try and try to erase God from existence, but the harder you try the faster Christianity spreads.

What do we do about all of this?

Madalyn is burning in hell for all eternity, but we really need to mourn her death and the fact that she faces eternal punishment. We shouldn't rejoice in her misfortune, rather praise God for serving proper justice. Understand that we are at war with the world and atheism is the snarling dog in its front yard. Our weapons, however, are not flesh and blood, but the Power Of God unto salvation. We need to pray for these people to be saved, it's obviously possible. We need to reach out to these people, they are not beyond forgiveness as long as they're alive. The Gospel is the only thing that will change their hearts and minds about the things of God. We don't want anyone going to hell! No intellectual argument can get them into Heaven any more than offending them with their sin will throw them into hell. For now, American Christians still have freedom to practice our faith in public, we need to keep using it as long as we have it. Should the atheists get their way and Christianity becomes illegal, guess what? We can still get the Gospel out into the world. Look at the persecuted countries where the church is flourishing. So go ahead atheists, keep trying to erase God from existence. we dare you!
