Do Christians Make Good Coworkers? Are you glorifying God at your job?

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

1 Corinthians 10:31

The question I pose to you today is: Are you glorifying God at your job? What is it about your job performance that gives glory to God?

Being a good witness at work doesn't always mean talking about Jesus with your coworkers. Start with simply being a good employee first. After all, God can still see how you live your life even though your sins have been washed away.

Are you always on time or are you just trailing the last second before being late? I'm sure you probably treat getting to church on time with great priority.

Do you treat your coworkers with respect, professionalism and grace or do you gossip about them?

Do you rejoice in the punishment of an employee you dislike or do you have compassion on them and pray for them? God had compassion on us before we loved Him, we need to be that to our coworkers.

When you have a problem with someone, do you work it out with them like an adult or do you whine about them to all of your coworkers before finally making it over to your supervisor to complain?

When you get in trouble, do you take responsibility for your actions and keep moving forward or do you cry, "Persecution!! Woe is me!!" on your facebook and try to make your boss look and sound like a crook? Remember, there isn't anyone who ever lived who's been in leadership without God's permission. Therefore, you need to honor your boss, even if you don't like him.

"For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil."

Romans 13:4

When you aren't up for a promotion, do you rejoice for the one who gets it and pray for their well-being and success or do you pout and tear them down in your mind? Absalom did that with his father King David and it wrecked the kingdom for a time. He would stand at the entrance to the King's court and hear the people's cases before they went in, then he would say something like, "Well, if only I were king... I would do better than my father David." As a result, a large portion of the kingdom split and it never truly healed. Don't do that with anyone in your job.

Maybe you feel like you can't be a Christian at your job because talk of religion is forbidden. As a result you start to feel mistreated because everyone else can be themselves but you're not allowed to be a Christian. You grow bitter and entitled, bitter from feeling left out and entitled from thinking that because you're a Christian that you're automatically better than your non-Christian teammates. Eventually you stop being a good employee. Then you get in trouble and you wonder what their problem is, when all along it was actually you.

Don't fret though, this problem isn't beyond fixing. Examine yourself under God's standards and allow the Holy Spirit to bring to light anything that needs cleansing.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting."

Psalm 139:23-24

Chances are, you may need to leave that job if your witness has been too far compromised. If you do need to start fresh with a new job, keep these things in mind and save yourself a lot of trouble.
