What Does a Souffle Have To Do With Our Duty As Christians?

I'm sure when you ponder the awesome works of God in Heaven, I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind is a souffle right? Well, maybe it's just the inner chef in me that makes me think that way, but understanding how a souffle works may be able to bring some insight as to how Christians operate.

Souffles aren't quite as scary as they sound in the movies. I'm sure you've seen either a cartoon or romantic comedy when someone's making one and it deflates at the slightest noise. Well, they're actually not that sensitive; however, opening the oven door and slamming it shut is certainly going to deflate it right away. Therefore, the important thing with souffles is to wait.

Likewise, we as Christians need to live in earnest patience for the day we get to be with the Lord. How we wait for the end times affects how we work with the world.

"But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31

But how must we wait on the Lord? I mean, can't I just sit on my hands and hum a nice hymn while I wait for Jesus to come pick me up? No.

In a kitchen, if you have time to spare, you have time to work on something else. Any cook standing around in a kitchen is liable to be yelled at by the chef. I always joke about the best way to find the chef is to stand around for 30 seconds and he'll show up to see you standing there, but it's kind of true. Not only true for the kitchen, but for our lives as Christians as well. Even the apostles had to be reminded that if they had time to lean, they had time to clean.

"Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Acts 1:9-11

So maybe you are working hard, but you really want it to be over with so you can be with Jesus. There's nothing wrong with that, just don't let that be your only focus. End times preaching, despite sounding hardcore, is actually on the rise in popularity due to the fact that people can just plug in current events and put a Scriptural spin on it and suddenly the end is at hand. Christians want to hear it because they want to be done.

Once again, nothing wrong with that. However, there have been a number of dangerous cults that have sprung up because people claim to have access to end times secrets. People flock to them because they want to believe that the end is near and their work can be done. As a result, what's happening is people are trying so hard to glimpse into Heaven that they're going astray here on Earth. That, my friends, is very much like opening up the oven door on a souffle.

There are 3 things that cause us to mess these things up.

1: They don't trust the instructions.

2: They don't trust the oven.

3: They don't trust the timer.

So it comes down to trust. Do you trust God's Word? Do you trust Him enough to wait for Him while being busy about His work? Or are you getting impatient? Are you starting to question your salvation just because Jesus hasn't taken you yet? Please don't. Just be patient and keep working.
